HS Transfer

You’re playing at a very successful high school program and:

-          You simply can’t get on the floor due to better players

-          You have a coach constantly recruiting out of district kids to move in and can’t get the time

-          You’re a post player playing with Harden and Westbrook wannabes and never touch the ball

You are a college prospect or believe you are one as well and are playing at a sub-par high school program:

-          Your teammates are not committed to the level you are and it is a culture of mediocrity

-          You have aspirations beyond the competence of your coach’s ability to educate/challenge you

-          You are not comfortable with the amount of time your coach spent with previous players and their recruiting

-          You are an achieving student and possibly looking to matriculate at a private school

For whatever reason, you want to change high schools and you want to be eligible to play varsity immediately with the GHSA.

I have been advising families on this particular issue for more than 15 years.  Over that time the good news is that the transfer process has become more accepted as a norm even though ensuring that your new situation is the right fit for the right reasons has not.  You want success and not the duplication of another bad situation even though there are no guarantees because no place, coach or school are perfect.
