8th Grader (Repeating and private school options)

This is an ever-growing demographic with parents and players that are seeking a smaller, more intimate environment, possibly have a late birthday, have not scratched puberty or simply want an extra year to prepare for high school.  Personally, I think some in this category have gone too far as we have an ever-increasing number of kids that are actually driving to 9th grade basketball.  I would also add that holding a player back may give them an advantage, but it usually only lasts for a season and a half or 18 months.  That is why we do not recommend holding players back at younger grade levels unless absolutely necessary.

There are a plethora of private school options to repeat a grade with a wide variety of factors such as costs/scholarships, religious denominations, academic rigor, coaching changes and team dynamics from year to year.  There is also a constant pendulum swinging back and forth with many schools especially with their emphasis/philosophy with regard to athletics and admissions while others are established in their philosophy consistently.

Specifically, as someone who has been involved with virtually every private school in the North Atlanta area as well as been offered positions in the majority of those athletic departments…I have the contacts you need to help find a match that will help facilitate your success both academically and on the court.
