Collegiate Prep Basketball Academy

Philosophy and Origin

For 16 years we have executed programming in the North Fulton/Forsyth area in primarily basketball.  We have witnessed the growth and change that has evolved with youth sports with regard to the fierce competitiveness, time allotment by "having to play travel" and of course the skyrocketing costs. For some this structure works and may even possibly give those kids an actual advantage toward future success.  However, we can tell you with hundreds of hundreds of testimonials of kids who either get burnt out and lose the enthusiasm for the process or simply are good enough to make the team, but do not get measureable inclusion.

Our world has been completely turned upside down over the past 5 months with a virus that has at its most scared some to death and at its least made us all stop for a moment and take stock in our lives individually, our family collectively and our priorities with regard to the future.

This program is a throwback to a time when kids did not have all of the luxuries of modern day life.  A time when kids just played outside, organized themselves to either play the sport of that particular season or maybe even took suggestions and had a vote to decide.  Back then you met at a particular yard or place in the neighborhood, made teams, created and communicated the rules, tried to enforce them on your own and negotiated squabbles among yourselves before having to call in someone's parent as a last resort.  This program strives to re-create that in a structured format while also providing speed and agility techniques used with college athletes for pre-season conditioning. There are no dads, politics or rationed participation.  No hidden admission fees, over priced uniforms or mandatory fundraisers for parents.  We are All Stuff, No Fluff!!!

We are here to provide your kid with some discipline, an opportunity to work outside their current comfort zone and compete while having fun. They will be challenged, they will be encouraged/pushed and they will experience many of the intangibles of life needed to be a critical thinking, self sufficient and healthy balanced contributing member of society....many of the things that organized sports have lost over the years in the pursuit of money and supposed stardom.

Curriculum

A major challenge in training high level college athletes is getting them to enthusiastically embrace a pre-season training program when all players want to do is PLAY!  This is where Coach Tucker developed the term "Chocolate Covered Vegetables" more than 20 years ago while describing the process of getting people excited about doing things they say they already WANT TO DO. The kids just want chocolate, but the adults want their kids to eat their veggies.  Personally we feel "the world is our oyster" and why can't we have both?

The solution is:

1. educate them on the validity of health and well being especially for performance
2. inspire them to work outside their current comfort zone
3. mentor them into executing lifelong daily habits
4. make it FUN!!!

0-10 min  Each session will begin with some dynamic stretching and warm-up or yoga.  We will warm the body, loosen the muscles and activate the heart and lungs.

10-40/50 min  We will then have some more advanced and explosive movements of agilities, ropes, ladders, track work or grass drills.

40/50-90 min  Complete lottery...the kids will never know what we are doing, but it will be competitive and fun.  Possible options include: soccer, ultimate frisbee, capture the flag, touch football, kickball, dodgeball, basketball, wiffle ball, mushroom ball, relevio, kids choice....suggestion and vote.

Dates, Times and Location

At Collegiate Prep we have always prided ourselves with having outstanding relationships with our facility vendors.  Unfortunately, with the current state of affairs and uncertainty due to Covid-19, coupled with the climate among school administrators we have decided NOT to book and secure indoor gyms for programming this fall.  However, we also feel that after executing 8 weeks of basketball camp this summer and being a pilot program with Governor Kemp's Office and stated guidelines, we can be active outside, execute those mandated guidelines again and provide kids with an outlet safely.  The bottom line is there is a virus, we should be taking safety precautions, but kids need to be given an opportunity to be kids and have some normalcy.

Obviously with Covid-19 we are in a time of great uncertainty and our leaders are literally making decisions without any crisis management manual.  We are acting in a similar unprecedented fashion.  All we can do is commit to execute our best and trust that we will do our best to keep any changes to a minimum.  We expect to meet the same standard as traditional outdoor sports and activities.

Investment Schedule

Traditional Crossfit and Boot Camps in the area are easily $150 - $300 per month.  Typical kids programming can be $22-$30 per hour for group lessons or training.  This program is priced at simply $12.50 per hour which is the exact going rate for a middle aged babysitter.  We think the value proposition for this program is well worth the investment.

Full Program: $300 / 16 sessions of 1.5 hours (24 total hours) = $12.50 per hour

Individual Sessions or Drop In rate: $30
